Hair On My Veggie Stick

November 27, 2011 by Heather

WHEW!  I just sat down after a long day at work. Lots of passive aggressive customers today. It makes me bummed out for people when they don’t share a smile. They’re missing out on life’s beauty! Le sigh. Moooving onwards.

Breakfast

Today’s morning meal was a special treat of sorts. I had the sheer pleasure of enjoying a onion-rosemary scone from Wildflour. Matty and I made a quick trip out there on Friday (I forgot my camera!) and I snagged this baby right up. The best part? Breakfast foods are 1/2 price towards the end of the night!

I ate some strawberries before heating up the scone for 30 seconds in the microwave. Doing this makes the inside soft and chewy and the outside slightly crispy. Accompanied by some strong coffee, I was in Heaven.

Side note: I’m loving how strawberries haven’t hit the crapper in the grocery store yet. At least some Summertime memories can carry me through the Winter months. ;-)

Lunch

After breakfast, I headed to church and came back home to get some schoolwork done. My shift at work was kind of awkward (11:00 – 5:00) so I decided to make myself an early lunch to tide me over.

The early lunch was stuffing salad. This is really just a fancy name for me mixing some kale, cherry tomatoes, and baby carrots in with leftover stuffing from Thanksgiving and half of an Apple Sage Field Roast sausage. We can pretend it was more complex, though.

I love how you can add kale to just about anything and it still tastes fantastic. No? Just me?

Dinner wasn’t really…dinner. By the time 3:00 rolled around, I was so hungry! Waiting four hours to eat makes for a grumpy Heather. I was really pressed for time before getting to work, so I didn’t have food to eat on my break. Okay, really, I just didn’t take the time to prep anything because I was doing homework.

I paid $10 for my poor planning by ordering $10 hummus and tabbouleh platter from Bar Louie. (A post on how to plan healthy meals is coming up soon!)

There were so many things wrong with this scenario. Allow me to elaborate:

  • When I went to pick it up, I found out they had forgotten about my order. 15 minutes of my 30-minute break were spent waiting for said order to arrive. Bah humbug.
  • I paid $10 for a hummus platter! I’m sorry, I just can’t get over that. But it was darn good, so I’ll forgive them.
  • A few veggie sticks into the meal, I discovered a tiny black hair on my sixth celery stick. Gross.
  • I threw out the celery stick and proceeded to eat the entire platter. Double gross.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to continue my sanitary habits and eat some pumpkin out of the can while studying. ;-)

Stay lovely,
Heather

Question of the Day: What odd objects have you found in food at restaurants?

I found a dead fly in a salad once at a restaurant. Needless to say, I lost my appetite for the salad, but they gave me a free one to make up for it! :)

  2. Ahh these things totally freak me out! Finding hair in food is the absolute worst!!
