Wildflour Fridays

February 24, 2012 by Heather

Happy Friday, loves! How are ya? I’m kind of pooped. Last night was a long night at the newspaper but it’s all good. I was super hungry when I got back but literally had nothing in my mini pantry but walnuts, pecans, sunflower seed butter and oats. So, I dipped my finger in the sunflower butter jar a few many times. Problem solved. ;-)

Workout

I am excited to share today’s strength workout with you! It targets the waistline, upper and lower hips, thighs, chest and booty. Your lower body will be in love with you when you’re done with it! Working our waistline is important for better balance and posture. I tackled this beauty after 30 minutes on the arc trainer:

*Note: One “Bridge Pulse w/ Hip Swing” rep consist of this following: thrust your hips up, maintain that position and swing your hips side to side. Repeat 20x. To learn how to complete pendulum swings and pretzel leg lifts (my MBB signature moves), click here. Also, I haven’t forgotten about the video; it will be coming to you next month, so hang tight!

Workouts like this make me feel so strong. I love when you can literally feel your muscles changing! There’s nothing like it. Hence, the cheesy cell phone shot.

Oh, hey!

Lunch

Before class, I made sure to grab lunch at the dining commons. Today’s entree included lentil-chickpea burgers with apple compote! I snagged a plate and made myself a salad with arugula, shredded carrots, baby corn (!!!) and roasted broccoli rabe.

Divine! I was stoked to see baby corn at the salad bar. I could eat it by the pound … but I have a strong feeling my bowels would disagree with that idea. Hehe.

Wildflour Fridays

It’s official: Matty and I have declared every Friday of this semester “Wildflour Friday.” You see, this semester is the semester of no breaks. In other words, I really have to be studying every moment I’m awake. Welcome to senior year of college! This was becoming problematic for Matty and I – we missed each other terribly! So, we decided to remedy the situation. Every Friday afternoon, we go to Wildflour.

First, we order the goods. Today, it was a chocolate chip cookie for him and a cranberry-almond biscotti for her (to dip in a large, slowpour coffee).

Awkward half-smile?

Matty does a lot of this (I promise he actually reads).

And I do a lot of this.

Care to know about weight management? I can tell you a whole lot.

Anyways, Wildflour Fridays are officially a tradition, one we’ve quickly grown quite fond of. How could we not? Calm atmosphere? Check. Generous and kind employees? Check. Amazing vegan goodies? Check. Love of my life? Check.

Yes, my friends, life is good. :-)

Stay lovely,
Heather

Question of the Day: Do you have a favorite local spot that you like to visit?

Wildflour takes the cake for me. It’s just perfect.

  1. So, last time I took a MBB class I swung by Wildflour and loved everything about it – just like you mentioned – and i can’t wait to go back! I got 2 scones to go (great for fast bfasts), and they were divine! I’ll have to trust you about the sweets, I have to wait until after Lent to try some :( . So glad you two found a fun way to spend more time together!
Oh and those pretzel leg lifts do feel great when you are doing them, just not 2 days after ;) .

Can’t wait to try this workout tomorrow morning! Could you please explain how to do the pendulum swings again? I think I asked before but I forgot..thanks!

    • Heather says:

      Mary,
I’m stoked you’re going to try the workout! The tutorial on how to do the pendulum swings is embedded in this blog post. Just click the link in the “NOTE” section and you can read about how to do them!

      • Mary says:

Ok great thanks, sorry I missed that embedded part. Also, I am seriously dying to try some of Wildflours goodies…so desperate that I e-mailed them to see if I could order online and have something shipped to me. I highly doubt it’s possible but hey it is worth a try.

This workout sounds awesome! I love the way strength training makes me feel. It’s amazing how much confidence comes with being strong.
It looks like the dining hall is doing a really good job of creating vegan-friendly dishes. The chickpea patties look sensational! I wish my school would have offered options like this when I was there. I basically had to fend for myself!

And “Wildflour Fridays” sound perfect. Nothing beats vegan goodies and spending time with the people that you love. (:

    • Heather says:

The patties were pretty good! A little dry but the taste was yummy. :-) FSU has really upped their game. I think the rest of the world is FINALLY starting to catch on a bit! Hehe.

Yes! Mine is called Zen Zero, Vegan Eatery and Raw Food Haven. They have an awesome salad bar, wraps, hot and cold soups, as well as raw entrees, raw desserts and AWESOME smoothies. It’s a wonderful place. And my boyfriend is slowly becoming very excited about going there regularly, he’s coming around so well. <3
