25-Minute Combination Blast!

March 22, 2012 by Heather

Why, hello there! How are ya? Despite a rude awakening during the wee hours of the morning, I am peppy as ever! Allow me to elaborate.

Ditzy Moment

At the ripe hour of 1:00 a.m., my dorm’s fire alarm went off. I was so startled! The alarm is LOUD – like really loud. Anyways, being the genius that I am, I grabbed my cell phone, keys, school ID and sweatshirt before bolting out the door. Genius me forgot something rather important. As I was walking down the hall, I recognized the back of my friend Kristen’s head but it was slightly blurry. Why was her head blurry? Genius me forgot to put on my glasses!

I wear contacts during the day and glasses at night – and for good reason, as my vision is quite poor. Luckily, Kristen is a wonderful friend and immediately linked arms with me so I could walk efficiently down the stairs and outside, where we proceeded to wait for 20 minutes. Fire trucks and police came – the whole she-bang – and because I couldn’t see properly, the lights were giving me such a headache! We never figured out why the alarm went off (probably a test?) but we were allowed to go back inside and I slept like a baby for the rest of the night.

Workout

When I woke up this morning, I was kind of tired. I’m blaming it on the fire alarm! Naturally, I sent out a tweet to proclaim my feelings.

The lovely, kind, hysterical and beautiful Kasey gave me the extra burst of  ”oomph” I needed to conquer today’s workout. I just love the FitFluential team! They are all so motivating and incredible. :-) Speaking of FitFluential, it’s Cait‘s birthday today! Happy birthday, Cait! I love you, girl. Show her some love!

Okay, back to this morning’s workout. You HAVE to do this one! I know that I say that about a lot of my homemade workouts but this one is really great – especially if you’re short on time. It combines strength and cardio together, making for one serious blast.

This is proof that you don’t need to log hours at the gym to fit in a quality workout. I paced myself, focused on good form and left feeling strong and especially goofy.

Oh hay!

Breakfast

I don’t think you’ll be too surprised at today’s morning meal.

The end.

Lunch

The rest of the morning was spent interviewing two professors for two separate articles that I am working on for The Gatepost, FSU’s student-run newspaper. After my interviews, I met up with my Community Nutrition group so we could work on our project. A little while into our four-hour excursion (we were working hard!), I took out my lunch.

This was taken before I sprinkled a heaping tablespoon of nutritional yeast into the mix! Today’s salad combined my two favorite taste sensations: salty and savory. Into the Tupperware container went kale, cucumber, broccoli, smoked sundried tomatoes and Yumnuts cajun cashews. I topped the veggies and cashews with Whole Foods’ sesame dressing. Nooch was added and a slice of Ezekiel bread was enjoyed for dippin’!

All together now!

My group and I were working in a food lab, where our former professor did a food demonstration earlier in the day. She offered us leftover stir fry and we happily accepted! The dish was made with kale, brown rice, carrots, corn, Bragg’s liquid aminos, butternut squash and daiya shreds. It was divine!

This definitely put a little pep in our step, as this grant project we are working on is a tad daunting. I’m really proud of what we’re doing, though!

Dinner

I had to bid the ladies goodbye in lieu of class, which ran a full half-hour late! Goodness gracious, my brain is fried. Eight hours later, I was more-than ready for a relaxing dinner with Kristen at the dining commons.

There were two parts to tonight’s dinner. I enjoyed tofu skewers, garlicky spinach and a big ol’ salad with hummus and balsamic vinegar. I was super hungry today! What the belly wants, it gets. ;-)

Now, I’m drinking some chocolate ZICO coconut water and waiting on a call from my journalism professor. He is the advisor for The Gatepost, so he’s going to call me when they’re ready to edit the news section. The news crew is enlisting my help in editing the paper. Have a beautiful night!

Stay lovely,
Heather
