Coffee Is Love; Love is Coffee

July 19, 2012 by Heather

When I woke up this morning, I thought it was Friday. Silly me. I think my brain is in a rush and wants Thursday to hurry along, because I’m heading to Connecticut tomorrow to visit two very special ladies. We have lots of fun planned, so stay tuned for that!

Dinner

Yesterday afternoon, my friend Raquel texted me saying that she was having an “off” day, so I suggested we go out to dinner together. Bestie shennanigans it was! We decided to go to the British Beer Company for good food and girl chat. Raquel loves their hummus (as do I) and we hadn’t been there in months, so it seemed like the perfect idea!

I ordered my usual: lettuce wraps with hummus.

They do not skimp on the veggies at the BBC. I love that! The dish also came with a side of red chili dipping sauce. It is super sweet and spicy, but also very delicious. I cleared my plate and we were happy chicks.

Workout

This morning’s chest workout was tough. I’m not a grunter when it comes to weight lifting but today was a different story, my friends. I’m quite happy that I lift in the comfort of my basement instead of at the gym – I was chuckling at myself mid-grunt. The sound of me grunting just doesn’t add up – it never ceases to make me laugh!

Anywho, back to the actual workout.

Chest Superset Workout

*To perform this move: At the same time, squat and tightly squeeze a playground ball between your hands. Works the chest and booty!

highly recommend you guys try this workout! It is challenging in the best of ways. And, to my fellow non-grunters, you can fill me in on whether you let out a grunt or two as well. ;-)

Random Thoughts

This morning, there was a special addition to my post-workout breakfast: pecan turtle coffee from Daybreak Coffee Roasters!

My dear friend Cait gave me three (yes, THREE!) bags of their amazing coffee for my birthday and, today, I broke into the above bag for the first time. Le sigh. Heaven in a cup. Mild yet poignant in flavor.

I love the taste of good, black coffee. There’s nothing like it to me. I don’t get a “caffeine high” from it; I just genuinely enjoy the taste and look forward to my piping hot cup every morning. It’s delicious, soothing, and incredibly calming to me. I have a reoccurring dream of Matty and I sitting on a wrap-around front porch in California, sipping hot coffee. It’s early morning and we’re just chatting about life – perfectly content. I smile, look at him, and say, “Coffee is love; love is coffee” and, in that moment, all is fabulous. Maybe someday, right? Now, you must think I’m the crazy, coffee lady – and I couldn’t really argue with you there. ;-)

Speaking of crazy (crazy awesome, that is), I came across a book this weekend that I completely forgot to share with you! Back in February, I posted about the now-uber-popular Vegan Ryan Gosling tumblr. Well, last weekend, I came across the Feminist Ryan Gosling book at Urban Outfitters. While I don’t really consider myself a feminisit, I found lots of humorous quotes in the book.

Take this gem, for example.

True dat, Ryan. True dat.

Okay, sorry to cut this short but I’m off to work for the day at the clinic. Happy Thursday, everyone!

Stay lovely,
Heather

  2. Candice says:

Love your workout! I actually wrote about my new love for the BOSU ball (kind of like a half stability ball) in my post this morning. I am trying to find new ways to use it because I am literally obsessed right now.

  3. sarah says:

I HATE when restaurants skimp on the veggies( seriously- one of my biggest pet peeves)!
    Those wraps looks delish.

I definitely want to have a go at that workout. I will grunt throughout it in your honour:).
    Xxx

    Cute top, Heather!
OMG, I also HATE restaurants that skimp on veggies. It leaves me hungry and almost needing to place a second order! These places seriously don’t have their priorities figured out..
I’m slowly gathering the ingredients to make your chocolate protein pudding oats! I’m very excited!
Also, do you find that coffee interferes with your ability to sleep? I have so much trouble sleeping even without caffeine :(

    • Heather says:

Ooo, I can’t wait for you to make the chocolate protein pudding oats! Let me know what you think when you make them. Tweet me a pic! :-) I have no troubles sleeping, Stephanie, so unfortunately I can’t be of great help in that department. I’m sorry, love! I’d talk to your PCP.

  5. Danielle says:

I love Dunkin Donuts coffee! Bust most mornings I just make Green Mountain in my Keruig! I can’t wait for Friday either! We’re so close!

  6. Caitlin says:

Umm…your wrap-around porch in CA sounds amazing. Exactly what I want to be doing. I love how I always want hot coffee year round. It’s so satisfying to sip on! Can I come visit you two? Can there be a porch swing?
You’re welcome for the Daybreak :) I hope you get some here this weekend!
Can’t wait to see you. <3

  7. LOVE your post title – totally agree with ya on the coffee=love front :) My fave is by a local coffee chain, Heine Brothers! But I also love Fresh Market and their big bulk bins of different yummy flavors

  8. Danielle says:

Mmm… I love coffee in the quiet, early morning. Reading the paper, blogs. Bliss!

On a different note – how did you determine how heavy the weights you lift to be? I will be transitioning to working out at home in the next few weeks, and am looking into get some weights. I was thinking 10-15 lbs?

    • Heather says:

When I’m weight training, I’m looking to be an 8/10 on the “uncomfortable scale,” if that makes any sense? I was using 15 lb. weights for everything except the rear flyes. For those, I used 5 lbs. because I have a sensitive lower back. Make sure you do what’s best for you and don’t strain yourself. :-)

  9. Lydia says:

LOL, love the Ryan Gossling book! I might have to go look for that ;)

  10. Lovin’ all the weight training! ;D I love coffee, too. Best thing ever.

  11. Same question as above on the workout…what sort of weights? loving the weight workout posts lady! I’m such a grunter too but unfortunately people in the gym have to put up with me!I’m on the same page, thought today was Friday…Nans 70th and nieces 4th birthday this weekend :)

    • Heather says:

I was using 15 lb. weights for everything but the rear flyes with a kick. For those, I used 5 lbs. because I have a sensitive lower back. Remember to do what’s best for you, though, darling!

  12. Lisa says:

I totally get annoyed when restaurant don’t add enough veggies to my meal. Don’t they know I’m a veggie addict? Sheesh ;) Wahoo to weight training! I’m trying to get more involved in that right now. And of course coffee is THE BEST!! I have a true obsession. coffee anonymous possibly?

    • Heather says:

Seriously! They should just KNOW that we’re veggie lovers. PSH. I would toats join you at coffee anonymous, in hopes of some sort of recipe swap. Haha!

  13. Emily says:

That restaurant is so generous with their veggies! I love it. I can’t stand when I order a vegetable dish and wind up with a few carrots and two stalks of broccoli.
I’m such a coffee addict- it’s ridiculous! At home I use my Keurig and rotate between a number of different flavored coffees. But, when I’m out, Starbucks has my heart. I just can’t stay away!

  14. Lea says:

There’s a local NC company called Larry’s Beans and they make the most amazing coffee. They also have a bus that runs off veggie oil!
