Rude Awakening

It’s story time!

Rude Awakening

Today got off to quite  the interesting start. It actually began at the ripe hour of 12:55 a.m. My cell phone rang and scared the living daylights out of me. I hastily picked it up and a woman on the other line said, “Is this Heather Waxman of store 2023?” She proceeded to tell me that she was from Backdoor Security and hadn’t received a notification from the retail store I work at, signaling the doors had been locked and secured. I instantly hung up the phone and went into panic mode. I’m just an associate – this is definitely a problem my store manager should handle – and I wasn’t sure if it was a creepy prank call. I’ve had a stalker-related issue before, so my guard is always up!

Just a few seconds later, the woman called again and left a message with the security agency’s phone number, asking me to call them back. Instead, I called two of my store’s managers and there were no answers. What did I expect at 1:30 a.m.? Eventually, I called the plaza security and they inspected the store, which turned out to be fine. Whew! “But wait,” I thought. “If the store was fine, why did this creepy lady call me?” I went into panic-mode again and politely asked the security guard to call the supposed security agency’s phone number. The kind woman (bless her heart) called the agency, which turned out to be legit. Eureka! I don’t have any weirdo stalkers. ;-)

This brought me to approximately 2:30 a.m. Joy. I should also mention that I called Matty in the process, so he deserves a shout out for staying up and waiting to hear that I was not going to be abducted.

Aaaand scene. If you just read all of that, you deserve a medal of sorts.

Workout

At 7:21 a.m., I opened my eyes, rolled over, and dragged my tired bum out of bed. If anything was going to get me energized, it was a kick-butt workout! I busted through the Tone It Up Surfer Girl routine from the Beach Babe DVD and followed it up with the new Beach Barre Workout, featuring barre instructor (yay!) Renee Herlocker.

I really enjoyed the workout! It was quick and effective, as barre always is, and made me miss teaching! Once I officially have everything organized with my two jobs and one-in-the-works, I’m going to re-visit teaching barre classes on a weekly basis.

Simple Stir Fry

I had the day off today and took it as a welcomed opportunity to continue working on my media kit. I plan on putting my journalism minor to use by embarking on freelance writing and I’m really excited to finally get the ball rolling! I worked on my media kit at Matty’s house while he also got some work done on his computer.

We worked with brain fuel.

This was a delicious tofu stir fry with a side of yellow yam fries. If you’re in the market for a quick-and-easy dinner, tofu stir fries are one of my personal favorites! This one contained the following:

  • 1 Tbsp. coconut oil
  • 2/3 cup extra-firm
  • Large handful of kale
  • Large handful of spinach
  • 4 asparagus spears
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 2 Tbsp. nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 tsp. mesquite
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Mrs. Dash Garlic & Herb

Amazingly simple and so delicious! I’ve been using coconut oil more than usual as of late, and am loving how well it soaks up the flavors of my dishes. It’s a bit pricey but totally worth it, in my opinion. Even with purchasing coconut oil, I was still able to stick to my $65 budget for the week. <*Pats self on back*>

Okay, friends, I’m off to tackle some more work. Lots to do! Have a beautiful evening.

Stay lovely,
Heather

Question of the Day: Have you ever received a phone call that totally freaked you out?

That would have totally freaked me out especially at 1:30am! How startling! No strange phone calls but my cell phone always gets wrong number phone calls! I’ll have to check out that barre workout! The former dancer in me loves them!

Do I get a medal? I read your story! Weird night! I got a phone call from Hannah once that woke me up in teh middle of the night. She kept saying, “Caitlin, you’re coming to get me right?” I was so confused, but then heard a very “official” sounding voice in the background questioning her. IDK how but my sleepy mind realized that the party she was at must have been busted! I played along and told her I’d be right there – and I was. I got there and the place was crawling with cops! Turns out my sis had told them I planned to come get her all along so they wouldn’t think she was going to drive home after drinking. I played right into her story! Great success.
Your story would’ve freaked me out too though. I may have called YOU since I don’t have a Matty to call. :P
That tofu scramble would’ve eased my fears though. Yum.

  3. Of course I read the story, how could you not after reading the first line!! Scary! I would have been totally freaked out! I’ve had a few weird phone calls in my time, though they have ended up being prank callers or wrong numbers. Our house phone (landline) is similar to the number of a local taxi rank. I’ve been woken up more than once at about 2am…drunk people don’t even say hello they just ask can you come pick them up at a certain location…!

Oh my gosh, that stinks Michelle! What a bother. Haha! I’m sure you’ve got a few funny stories up your sleeve though, right? ;-)

  4. Um, yea, I def would have freaked out. I wish I had a medal to send your way!!

  5. Meg says:

umm YES coconut oil is TOTALLY worth it! AND YES I read every single word of every single one of your posts ;) Sorry for the early wake up call that frightened you love! I hate those calls in the middle of the night :( They always scare me that something has happened to someone I know…

  6. Eeeek, late night phone calls like that are always creepy, and yes unfortunalty I have had several. BUT I also have five brothers ;)

  7. I hope you don’t get any more freaky phone calls! That happened to my hubby once! Coconut oil is so so so so good. That stir fry looks scrumptious!

  8. Emily says:

That phone call would have definitely freaked me out! I’m always hesitant when my phone rings in the middle of the night. I’m glad everything worked out though!

I finally just invested in coconut oil this week and actually haven’t tried it yet. I’m excited to though. I’ve heard so many amazing things about it!

  9. @pluvk says:

Oh my goodness, that is so weird! Did you ever find out why they called you and not your managers? I would have been suspicious, too!! :-)

My dad once left me a message and it sounded like he was crying. When I called him, and frantically asked what was wrong, it turned out he was going to sneeze when he left the message!!

    • Heather says:

I did find out! Apparently, I’m a trusted associate. My name is at the very bottom of the list of people to call in case of an emergency. I requested to be taken off the list yesterday, though. Not my deal! Haha.

That story made me laugh out loud. SO funny!

  10. Lisa says:

Coconut oil rocks! I always make sure I have room in my budget for it:)
Eek, that’s so odd about the phone call. I’ve gotten really creepy ones in the past that freaked me right out. I’m hoping they were pranks, since I never found out who they were from, but some people are just crazy hah.

  11. Jessie says:

Phew, I’m glad you are okay. What a creepy and odd phone call. Did you ever find out from your manager what it was in regards too? I would’ve been so eager to know, haha.

    • Heather says:

Yes, Jessie, I did find out! Apparently, I’m a trusted associate. My name is at the very bottom of the list of people to call in case of an emergency like that. I requested to be taken off the list yesterday – no more 1 a.m. wake-up calls for this chickie!

  12. Teaching barre classes on a regular basis was the ONLY thing I got out of this post…okay, just kidding! But seriously seeing you on the schedule regularly would be wonderful :)

    • Heather says:

Aww, thanks Rachael! I really hope to get back into it soon. Once everything is squared away, I’ll be back with a vengeance! ;-)
