#plantPOWER Approved Grocery List!

September 28, 2012 by Heather

With Kasey and I’s #plantPOWER challenge coming up on MONDAY, we thought we’d provide you with everything you need to go grocery shopping this weekend! We’ve created a stellar list and broke it down according to macronurients (protein, carbohydrates, and fats). It is full of amazing foods that make you feel good from the inside out!

We can get everything we need from plant-based foods and October’s #plantPOWER challenge is the perfect month to usher in those plants! Remember that this isn’t about losing weight – this is about treating your body with TLC and feeling energized from the inside out. That’s what matters most!

Right?

Right. That’s me channeling my inner Uncle Sam/I Want You face, aka the “Kasey-and-I-Really-Want-You-To-Join-Us” face. Sexy, huh?

Kasey and I developed the following grocery list together and we know you’re going to LOVE it! Thanks to Kasey for making these charts and picking up some slack this week, which has been very hectic and busy. I love you, girl!

FATSSS

If you have ANY questions or want to submit a recipe for us to share with everyone during the challenge, email me (heather@fortheloveofkale.com) or Kasey (kasey@powercakes.net) for more information. Along the way, we have some amazing foodie giveaways for all of you! All you have to do to be entered is participate in the challenge every day and make sure that, starting Monday, you’re tagging @theloveofkale and @Powercakes with the #plantPOWER hashtag and the #FitFluential hashtag. Let’s bring the plant thunder!

In the spirit of #plantPOWER, I thought that I’d show you how I’ve been reppin’ the plant-based love so far today!

Breakfast

At my desk today, I enjoyed some unpictured dried figs, chocolate protein pudding oats with hemp seeds, and a black, medium coffee with one shot of espresso. I’ve finally found the one and only thing I’ll ever like from Dunkin’ Donuts. Eureka! Espresso is the key to making their otherwise bland coffee stronger and tasty, in my humble opinion.

Snack

Mid morning, I broke into my nuts. My favorite is a the mixed bag of raw nuts from Trader Joe’s, which includes almonds, cashews, Brazil nuts, walnuts, and peanuts. Brain power at its finest!

Lunch

Lunch was warm and cozy – just what I was craving on this dreary and rainy day! I made a scramble with organic sprouted tofu from Trader Joe’s, kale, red pepper, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, curry powder, and Trader Joe’s eggplant-garlic spread. I served it up with a roasted sweet potato, sliced into wedges, and a dollop of organic ketchup. Delish!

Alright, folks, it’s back to work for this girl. Make sure you check out Kasey’s awesome #plantPOWER grocery shop. She got some amazing loot that is making me kale-green with envy! ;-) I’ll be doing my grocery shop tomorrow, so stay tuned for that!

Stay lovely,
Heather

Question of the Day: What are you most excited for during October’s #plantPOWER challenge?

Great list of grocery items! Mmm…I think I need to make some sweet potato fries for dinner!
Unfortunately no more tofu or tempeh for me, since I suffer from migraines. I was sad about this fact. Loooove you lady! Hope your day is fab!xo

  2. Mary says:

I actually already have everything on that list (minus earth balance) so I’m all prepared!! Can’t wait this sounds like fun :)

  3. I love that you girls are doing this! I’m excited to start tagging my food photos w/ plantPOWER! :D have a great weekend!

  4. Caitlin says:

Those sweet potato fries look great as does your whole lunch! I’m still wary of DD coffee even if it’s perked up with espresso..but I also trust your coffee taste! Perhaps one day if I am in a situation in which I am forced to drink DD, I’ll get that, but will still avoid it at all cost :P and you don’t look like Uncle Sam in that pic but I think it’s a good thing, yes? ;) you are much prettier.

    • Heather says:

I feel you, girl. Unfortunately, in Sarah’s neck of the woods, there are no lovely coffee shops with the delicacies that Wildflour and Daybreak have to offer. That needs to change stat.

  5. Danielle says:

Love all the plant loving! You and Kasey are going to have an awesome challenge and I think it’s going to get me eating more veggies so I can’t wait!

  6. I am so excited for this! I keep saying I’m going to do this, but with your help I might actually! Speaking of, I just made pumpkin bread the other day and could not figure out how to veganize it. Is there a simpler egg replacement than using xantham or guar gum? Or do I have to maybe find that stuff online? I kinda live in the ghet. to.

    • Heather says:

You WILL do this, girl! Kasey and I are so pumped to have you onboard. It’s going to be so much fun! For one egg, you can use 1 Tbsp. ground flax and 3 Tbsp. water. That usually works for me!

  7. Meg says:

NICE POST GIRL! Thanks for the suggestions :) I have tempeh in the freezer crying to be used! I AM SO EXCITED!

Google “Fresh restaurant” and check out their menu :) I went there tonight and had an ENTIRE vegan meal! LOVED IT <3

    • Heather says:

WOO HOO! So happy to have you on board for #plantPOWER this month! It’s going to be awesome. :-) OMG. I want to go to fresh. Right. Now. I’ve already picked out what I’d order hahah. What did you get?!

  8. Oh goodness, I’m SO excited about this plant power challenge! This is actually the first I’d heard about it, so I want more details! I’ve been reducing my meat consumption lately, and have been looking for new ways to prepare meatless (yet relatively high protein) meals. I can’t wait to gather ideas from the other participants. :) The grocery list looks great too; I’ve never tried spirulina, so I’m looking forward to giving that one a whirl. :)

Even though I’m not an oats person, your chocolate protein pudding oats are calling my name! They look so so good.

Hope you have a lovely weekend! xoxo <3

    • Heather says:

Oh, girl, the possibilities are endless! All of my recipes are rich in protein, so definitely check them out and give them a try! They also happen to be mighty delicious. ;-)

As for the chocolate protein pudding oats, they’re a game changer. Haha! Love you!

  9. Thanks for sharing the list! I’ve never tried over half of the proteins mentioned but have heard great things about their nutritional benefits! I’m most interested in trying hemp seeds, nutritional yeast, and finding a protein powder that actually tastes good! The few I’ve tried are gritty, grainy, and taste like chalk :P

    • Heather says:

Girl, you’re going to love everything! I promise. :-) I use Life’s Basics chocolate protein powder (you can find it at Whole Foods). It’s $29.49 for a tub and is full of rice, hemp, chia, and pea protein. It’s awesome!
