Pumpkin, Pumpkin Everywhere!

September 19, 2012 by Heather

Thank you so much for all of your sweet comments on the blog, Twitter, and Instagram in regards to yesterday’s post on getting rid of idols. I’m so happy that we can have these deep chats and explore our spirituality together. It’s something I’ve become increasingly passionate about and I’m starting to make some big plans in that area of my life. So many exciting things to come!

Workout

Today began with 20 minutes of sweat, thanks to the Surfer Girl workout from the Tone It Up Beach Babe DVD. I’ve been going even lighter on my workouts these past couple of weeks. I’m not feeling strength training with heavier weights as much as I was at the beginning of the summer. That phase was short-lived. Ha! I’ve really been loving Bikram yoga, bodyweight toning with lighter weights and higher reps, and power-walking – plus my one ZWOW per week! I love the variety and feel fantastic and energized! I’m also starting to receive more signs that my bod pod is getting back to normal. Fingers crossed!

Breakfast

Post-Surfer Girl workout was my own personal breakfast of champions.

Pumpkin coffee in a Dopey mug, figs, and chocolate-peanut flour protein pudding oats. Need I say more? It kept me satisfied for hours while I plugged away at my laptop. Jason Petrucci, the graphic designer who is helping me create the j’adore la vie logo, has been working hard and has been so patient through the many edits we’ve gone through. I can’t wait to show you guys the finished product tomorrow for the first official j’adore la vie post! ARE YOU PUMPED?!

Lunch

Today was super special because I got to finally see this guy again.

Matty had been away in North Carolina off-and-on for the past week for work and, after a week of not seeing each other, it felt so good to be reunited. I picked him up after his flight landed and we headed to Wildflour for a lunch date. I decided on the raw lasagna, layers of zucchini and summer squash with cashew and brazil nut cheeses, basil pesto, and sundried tomato paste. Oh my heavens.

Swoon city. I love how you can see the sun shining in the above right picture. The weather is kind of perfect today at an ideal 72 degrees, and that simply makes my heart all warm and fuzzy.

Matty decided to order Wildflour’s new pizza: Local Corn, Tomato, and Pesto.

He said it was delicious and really loved the unique flavors. According to Matty, the obvious sweetness from the corn and the more subtle sweetness from the tomato balanced out the savory pesto.

Pumpkin, Pumpkin Everywhere!

And then there were the bakery items. Oh, the beloved Wildflour bakery case. There was a lot of gasping going on because the fall classics are back!

Gluten-free Pumpkin Bread

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

I know, I know. You’re jealous. As you should be. ;-)

And as you can see,  everything is starting to sell like hot cakes! I purchased a slice of the pumpkin bread for breakfast tomorrow with my pumpkin coffee. How fitting! I am still, however, waiting with baited breath for the return of the Apple Cider Cupcake, a freshly baked apple cake with apple chunks, topped with a nutmeg-infused frosting. I really dislike cupcakes. Like a lot. The excpetion lies with this cupcake because it is just that incredible. Oh, fall, I love you so much.

In other local news, Rob and Uschi Yaffe, owners of Wildflour and Garden Grille, are opening a third location in Providence, RI! I talked to Rob about it a couple of weeks ago and I will be attending opening night, live Tweeting and Instagramming the entire night. The restaurant concept is still being developed, so I can’t give you any details yet but it is scheduled to open before the first of the year!

Alright, Matty and I are off to spend some more quality time together. Have a beautiful day!

Stay lovely,
Heather

P.S. – Keep those J’adore la vie submission rolling in!

  1. I’ve never had a whoopie pie. And that needs to change immediately! Why do you hate cupcakes so much?! (Does the same apply to muffins, too?) :D

    • Heather says:

Yes, it applies to muffins too! I have no idea why I hate them so much. It’s mysterious. I link it to my aversion to desserts in general. ;-)

  2. Caitlin says:

Can’t WAIT for Rob’s new restaurant – and to see your thoughts on it! You’re gonna be great!
So happy to see Matty back on the blog because it means he is back in your arms #vomit OMG what have you done to me. Mmm I would have loved to try that pizza!
The pumpkin bread and pumpkin coffee sound like the perfect recipe for a #jadorelavie moment for you tomorrow morning, BB! Love it. Life should ALWAYS be planned for optimal #jadorelavie-ing!

  3. That lasagna looks to die for!!! It will be my mission to attempt to recreate something similar! And all those pumpkin treats, are they all vegan friendly!? So jealous! Have fun with Matty ! :) x

    • Heather says:

Oh my gosh, if you recreate that Michelle, I’ll give you the biggest virtual hug in the entire world! Yes – all of those treats are vegan! Everything in the bakery is vegan.

  4. Yaara Leve says:

Ooo girl that pumpkin bread looks amaazing! Apple cider donuts are also some of my faves. It’s nice to see that you are listening to your body, mind, and spirit. Have you tried swimming? I used to swim laps all the time–I should get back into it–but got into other stuff–i.e. ZWOWs, kickboxing, etc.. But it’s soo good for your body and is a great low-impact, full-body workout. Also–I wasn’t sure if you’re Jewish or not–Waxman can go either way. But if you are I wanted to wish you a happy new year.
PS: I enjoyed your idols vlog yesterday. I feel like we all struggle with internal demons/idols on a daily basis and it takes inner strength to find them.

    • Heather says:

Yaara, it the most delicious bread in the entire world. It really, truly is. :-) I don’t belong to a gym so I haven’t tried swimming but I have always wanted to give it a go. My dad is of Jewish decent and I celebrate Passover, Hannukah, and Rosh Hashanah with his family. It’s awesome. :-) So glad you liked the vlog! xoxo

  5. Meg says:

hehehehehe! swoon city! you are way too cute.

  6. Pumpkin whoopie pie? That just sounds so so good.

  7. I love when pumpkin things start popping up again, it means fall is really here!

  8. I’m in love with your Dopey mug! How cute! I’d like to start my day with a side of Dopey (who, of course, brings a smile to my face rather than a frown) every morning! :)

I’m so happy that Matty’s back, and that you two were able to enjoy lunch at Wildflour. Your lasagna looks incredible! I look forward to sharing a meal (and maybe an apple cider cupcake?) with you there someday! And that gluten free pumpkin slice?! Oh gosh, I’d LOVE a piece of that.

I think it’s so great that you’ve been listening to your body and doing workouts that make YOU feel your best. I’ve been doing the same lately, and it’s provided a much needed break from the rigid lifting regimen I was following all spring and summer. My views about exercise are evolving, and I’m beginning to truly believe that the best exercise is that which makes us feel most in harmony. Hard core lifting 5 days/week was making me exhausted, not invigorated!

I sent you an email tonight with some j’adore la vie photos! Can’t wait to see the new logo! xoxo <3

    • Heather says:

Yes! Dopey’s smile is rather contagious huh?! OH MY GOODNESS, if you came to my neck of the woods, I would die of excitement, Sarah. Seriously! And we would bask and swoon over Fall-themed treats all the live-long day. I COMPLETELY agree with you about heavy lifting. I noticed that I had to eat more (which was TOTALLY fine with me) but I found it exhausting to have to continuously make sure I was eating more because I was lifting. I just wanna liiiive! Haha. We’re so similar it’s crazy. I got your photos and cannot WAIT to post them! Love you. <3

  9. Lisa says:

I’m so proud of you, regarding exercise! I need to be following in your footsteps! I think I may just take a whole rest week, because I want my body to get used to this increase I’m making and hopefully get some more sleep in.
I can’t wait for you J’adore La Vie post tomorrow!
And I oh so love my pumpkin, was that not on obvious statement or not;)
Can’t wait for our chat tomorrow!

  10. Enjoy your time with Matty, prety girl! All those pumpkin treats sound so good!

  11. that apple cider cupcake sounds divine! I have a grumpy mug that my dad got for me because he said I am grumpy until I have my morning coffee; which can be true haha!

  12. Ali says:

I? Love everything about this post.

  13. man that lasagna looks insanely good!

    and ya for pumpkin season!
