Vegan Designer John Bartlett Hits Fashion Week

September 17, 2012 by Heather

I am LOVING all of your J’adore la vie submissions via email, Twitter, and Instagram! You are warming my heart and I can’t wait to round them all up for Thursday’s post. It’s going to be EPIC! If you have any J’adore la vie moments that you want to share, email a picture and caption to me at heathe[at]fortheloveofkale[dot]com.

Breakfast

Contrary to my usual weekday routine, I did not workout this morning! My friend Sarah and I are going to Bikram tonight instead. Whee! After seven hours of shut eye, I peeled myself out of bed and went downstairs to put on a pot of pumpkin coffee. While the coffee brewed, I peeled an orange. Today’s mug of choice was Minnie Mouse.

After the orange came the protein pudding oats obviously. ;-)

Trader Joe’s Trip

Today is my one day off from both of my jobs so it makes sense that I designate Monday as grocery shopping day. After getting some work done on the laptop, I mosied over to Trader Joe’s to purchase my loot for the week.

My purchase was about 80% fruits and veggies, including a baby eggplant (bottom) and an acorn squash! Special purchases included rice cakes, TJ’s eggplant-garlic spread, chocolate coconut milk ice cream, and a LUNA bar. It’s been FOREVER since I’ve had a LUNA bar and the peanut butter variety caught my eye!

Lunch

By the time I got home from food shopping, I was ready for lunch! Sorry, but you’re getting another picture of my current obsession.  Actually, I’m not sorry at all – because it’s fantastic!

Kale, broccoli, cucumber, Trader Joe’s tomato-basil hummus (I need this by the gallon), and hemp seeds. It’s the perfect meal! I enjoyed it with two rice cakes topped with my zesty nooch sauce (2 Tbsp. Trader Joe’s peach salsa + 2 Tbsp. nutritional yeast).

I’ve found that Tupperware is just my jam. It mixes the flavors in salads so beautifully and I’m too lazy to dirty another dish. Capeesh?

Vegan Designer John Bartlett Hits Fashion Week

John Bartlett, a graduate of Harvard and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), has been a champion for animal rights for years. In Fall 2011, Barlett launched his clothing line, The Tiny Tim Collection, in order to raise funds for his non-profit, The Tiny Tim Rescue Fund, an animal rescue organization that helps support independent animal rescue leagues across the country. The logo in all of Bartlett’s collections is the outline of his three-legged rescue dog, Tiny Tim. How adorable is that?

His work in the fashion world has earned him two Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awards and he was named ‘Designer of the Year’ by the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA). Not too shabby, huh? Best of all, Bartlett made Fashion Week history in February 2012 with the first-ever cruelty-free, ecoluxe menswear collection! Just last week, he displayed his brand Spring 2013 menswear collection at Fashion Week, which has a fresh and modern take on preppy tailored suits and pants.

I’m a big fan of his girls tees, tanks, and pullovers. Ten percent of all profits of the Tiny Tim Collection go directly to the Tiny Tim Rescue Fund. I am eyeing the Slouchy Pullover and the Tiny Tim Pride Tank!

It is so moving to see the fashion world embracing a designer who champions for compassionately manufactured clothing, humane treatment of animals, and gay rights. Can we say triple threat?! I’d also like to point out that the pullover color is called “Heatherd.” Cooincidence? I think not. ;-)

Okay, I’m off to get some more work done. Then, it’s Bikram time!

Stay lovely,
Heather

  1. Mmmmmm that rice cake topping sounds divine, I tend to gravitate towards sweet toppings like almond butter/jam but that savory one sounds mighty tasty!

“heatherd?” I think that’s the fashion gods telling you to buy it:)

That zesty nooch sauce sounds pretty good! I’m a big fan of nutritional yeast on just about anything though:)
Those tops are adorable! Love the companies ethics!
    Have fun at Bikram!

  4. Thank you so much for introducing us to The Tiny Tim Collection! I love supporting companies and designers who use their businesses to champion causes and charities that are near to their hearts. The slouchy pullover looks super comfy, and I love the colors (and the message) in the tank. I say get both! ;)

TJ’s tomato basil hummus really DOES need to be sold by the gallon! I easily eat through one container in two days. Want to petition the store with me?

I hope you had a great Bikram sesh tonight with Sarah! Huge Hugs. <3 xoxo

    • Heather says:

Hahaha, I wish my bank account would allow me to get both. Soon, though! Let’s get that petition going please and thank you. LOVE YOU!

  6. I don’t really buy a lot of flavoured hummus (the classic kind is just so good!), but that tomato basil kind sounds good! I hope I can find a similar kind here.

Also I’ve never heard of John Bartlett before but I love what he stands for! And that pullover looks so cozy. :)

  7. The slouchy pullover is so cute!!

  8. MMmmm that kale salad looks SO good. I cannot wait to get to the states and hit up TJ’s. I miss their hummus so badly. I’m thinking TJ’s needs to come to Canada, ASAP!!!

  9. Caitlin says:

I had no idea a vegan designer was at NYFW! So cool. Just like the restaurant world, I love seeing the fashion world including vegan clothing options because that way people have plenty of different options to try to see what’s best for them!
