#plantPOWER Day 10: Breakfast & Attune Foods GIVEAWAY!

October 10, 2012 by Heather

Good morning, plant lovers! It’s day 10 of the #plantPOWER challenge and today’s topic is breakfast!

…but before we get to breakfast, let’s talk workouts.

Workout

Today, I did a 48-minute makeshift yoga workout, thanks to my favorite yoga instructor, Tara Stiles! The Yoga Solution with Tara Stiles from Livestrong Woman and Tara Stiles’ YouTube Channel have awesome videos that you can do anywhere. Here’s what today’s routine looked like:

This morning, my mind was racing with all sorts of thoughts and I found it really difficult to center myself and solely focus on my breath. It was so frustrating! After about 20 minutes, I was able to calm my mind with my breath and the practice ended on a high  note! I felt so serene and at peace – especially after a couple of minutes of meditation. Today, I focused on forgiveness; breathing in forgiveness and breathing out any lingering animosity or anger lingering in my heart.

Breakfast

Every morning, after my workout and before enjoying breakfast, I make it a point to have 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar (ACV) with 8 oz. water. Tone It Up actually got me back into ACV (with their signature Meta-D drink), when I started incorporating a bunch of their principles into my lifestyle last year. FYI: You can read more about the Tone It Up plan here, which includes the Meta-D drink. Among many other things, I’m so grateful that Karena and Katrina reinvigorated my love for ACV!

Many of apple cider vinegar’s claimed benefits have not been scientifically proven. However, according to an article published in the British Journal of Nutrition, apple cider vinegar does have cholesterol-lowering properties, thanks to the the acetic acid. ACV is rich in amino acids, potassium and important enzymes, all of which help our bodies recover and energize us! For this reason, ACV is thought to help with digestion.

NOTE: To reap the benefits, I suggest purchasing organic, unfiltered ACV. This ensures that all of the good, fermented bacteria will be present to help with digestion. My girl Kimberly Snyder, CN, is a big fan!

Today, after ACV, I had black coffee and a few @NatureBox dried cherries. I wait about 10 minutes for my fruit to begin digesting before moving onto my beloved chocolate-peanut flour protein oats! Breakfast of champs. ;-)

What did YOU have for breakfast today? SHOW US!Attune Foods GiveawayWhen I saw the new Attune Foods Erewhon Supergrains cereal that was bestowed upon us, I literally squealed like a 5-year-old child.

I love buckwheat! And I loooove hempPairing the two is akin to sweet potato wedges and ketchup. It just works. When I flipped over the box to take a glance at the ingredient list, I let out another child-like squeal. Organic Buckwheat, Organic Brown Rice, Organic Maple Syrup, Organic Hemp, Sea Salt. For months, I’ve been on the hunt for a cereal that has simple ingredients, has generous amounts of protein and fiber, is low in sugar, and has the ability to satiate me. I know – I’m a demanding consumer!

It’s been a battle. Until now! I am over-the-moon excited about this cereal. It is amazing.  This cereal maintains its crunch long after pouring the almond milk and never gets soggy! I love to toss the crispy flakes with mixed nuts for a satisfying midday snack.

Now two of you have the opportunity to win a box of your own Supergrains cereal! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post stating how you would enjoy Erewhon Supergrains cereal (sold exclusively at Whole Foods, by the way!). Extra entries for tweets and Instagram pictures of your #plantPOWER meals and snacks!

Stay lovely,
Heather

P.S. – Make sure you check out Kasey’s vlog update on how she’s feeling after going 100% plant-based this month! This girl is my soul sister and I am SO proud of her. :-)
