#plantPOWER Day 17: Beverage Day & Drink Chia Giveaway!

October 17, 2012 by Heather

Happy Hump Day, plant lovers! Did you see yesterday’s giveaway for Perfect Fit protein powder?! It’s incredible! I also posted an awesome POWER smoothie that you can enjoy. Thank you again to Karena and Katrina for being so generous and spreading the #plantPOWER love! They are amazing women with so much heart, brains, and beauty!

It’s a gorgeous Fall day here in Rhode Island. The temperatures have already reached a cool-and-comfortable 50 degrees and it’s not even the early afternoon! Oh Fall, how I love thee.

Not a bad porch-side view, huh? I feel so blessed to wake up to that beauty every morning!

It’s day 17 of the #plantPOWER challenge and today’s topic is beverage!

I have to be honest with you, I didn’t get serious about my beverage (namely water) consumption until last year. The main beverage in my life was always this guy:

Hot!

or iced (with unsweetened almond milk & stevia!).

Over the past year, I”ve embraced the addition of other beverages into my life that add nutrition and fun to my lifestyle!

Water

My purple Camelbak is one of my BFFs. Having my reusable water bottle handy not only help me create less waste but also provides an easy-peasy way for me to track my water intake. I find that, if I’m not drinking out of my Camelbak, my water-drinking goes by the wayside. So, we could say that Camelbak is a little life saver.

Apple Cider Vinegar Drink

Every morning, after my workout and before breakfast, I enjoy a simple ACV and water mixture to cleanse my GI tract and give me some extra energy throughout the day. I simply xombine 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar (ACV) with 8 oz. water. If you’re sensitive to bitter foods, you can add 1/2 tsp of stevia too! I wrote about this lovely drink last week but it really does bear repeating. If you’re not taking ACV, I recommend you jump on it! Kasey does too. ;-)

Many of apple cider vinegar’s claimed benefits have not been scientifically proven. However, according to an article published in the British Journal of Nutrition, apple cider vinegar does have cholesterol-lowering properties, thanks to the the acetic acid. ACV is rich in amino acids, potassium and important enzymes, all of which help our bodies recover and energize us! For this reason, ACV is thought to help with digestion.

NOTE: To reap the benefits, I suggest purchasing organic, unfiltered ACV. This ensures that all of the good, fermented bacteria will be present to help with digestion. My girl Kimberly Snyder, CN, is a big fan!

Kombucha

Just kissing some kombucha!

I know it’s kind of a broken record in the blog/healthy living world but – frankly – I don’t care. ;-) GT’s Kombucha rocks my world; you know, aside from the nearly $4.00 price tag. Like ACV, it also contains lots of good bacteria to help our digestive systems and balances our body’s pH. It’s fizzy and delicious! My favorites are guava goddess and cosmic cranberry. What are your favorites?!

*NOTE: Kombucha claims are not scientifically proven.

Rooibos Tea

My friend Meg is going to be pumped that I’m mentioning tea! I’m a big fan of rooibos tea because it is naturally caffeine free and rich in the antioxidants polyphenols, which help prevent cell damage and help to maintain strong and healthy hair, skin, and nails! I love to enjoy a cup of the above tea or NUMI’s organic rooibos at night after dinner. The flavor is so deep, rich, and vanilla-like. So cozy and comforting.

 Green Juice

This is my all-time favorite drink in the entire world! Because our bodies don’t have to exert any energy into digestion, we can absorb all of the vitamins and minerals we need from the drink without any extra effort. The burst of energy and clarity you receive from drinking green juice is unparallel to anything else you put in your body! Unfortunately, I don’t have the money to afford a juicer so I opt for Wildflour’s Mr. Green Genes juice when I get the chance! It’s unreal.

That rounds up my favorite #plantPOWER beverages! What are your personal favorites? SPILL!

  1. Yumm – you basically just named all my favorite drinks :)

I start every morning with some ACV cocktail of some sort – often mixed with Fitmixer Aminos! Such a great start to the day and love the way it helps my tummy with digestion :)

And Kombucha – I wish I could drink 3 a day everyday. I actually love the Chia variety too. I know some people HATE the texture, but I have to say it is my favorite part!

And green juice? Oy – music to my ears. There aren’t any real juice bars here in DC where I live, so when I stumbled upon Protein Bar this morning and saw they have a few varieties of raw juices, I had to jump on it. Seriously so good. I would take over coffee any day! Too bad its just so expensive..a juicer and the store bought.

  2. Water, water and more water! we have these new bobble bottles here in Ireland, they have a filter in them you can change, so handy! you get 300 uses out of them and they’re BPA free. Also loving ginger lemon green tea and vanilla chai cinnamon tea at the moment Other than that I don’t drink a whole lot other than if I’m making a smoothie and then I go for almond milk! :)

  3. I love me some kombucha, too, but always wonder- do you drink the entire bottle, or do you toss out the “stuff” at the bottom?
    Thanks!

  4. Jody says:

I’ve always wondered about the stuff at the bottom of kombucha too! Living in the south its all about sweet tea, except I drink mine unsweetened :-) I also loooove coconut water… so refreshing! Love that fall pic, makes me miss home; I love New England in the fall!

  5. Lydia says:

Very cool post! That is such a beautiful fall tree! I miss fall so much being in So. California :)

  6. Ashley Mammel (True Tone Fitness) says:

Great drink choices, a lot of my favourites right there! I have never tried Chia! I wonder if we have it in Canada…
