  1. The Best Detox Ever

    May 22, 2013 by Heather

We have to feel our pain and our feelings in their entirety in order for them to be released. The reason why so many people “play it small” throughout their life and don’t reach their full potential is because they skip the first and most crucial step: feeling it and witnessing it. And even if people do feel and witness their behavior and recover, they are tempted again into that behavior. And when they’re tempted, they think they’re doing something wrong.

The Universe is not testing you because it wants you to be miserable and have all this pain. That’s your ego talking. The Universe is testing you because it wants you to train your mental muscles. It wants you to become a pro at training your brain to say yes to love in all situations. That’s the goal. And as with everything, we can’t get there without lots of practice. ;-)  This week, this lesson has been clearer to me than ever. I’m being tested over and over again to learn my lesson in regards to a relationship with someone close to me, and it’s painful. But I know it’s because the Universe wants me to master the lesson so I can teach it to others. This is the message of The Healing Detox.

The Healing Detox has three phases:

Phase 1: Feeling it & Witnessing It.

The cliche that says the first step is always the hardest is not just a cliche – it’s true. Feeling it is painful but it’s the number one step to moving forward and freeing yourself of that behavior. At this point, you feel triggered  and still act on it but still know the behavior is whack. So, you  might still send that impulsive text message or email, or you might still overeat, or might still pick up a drink. The difference is that you have witnessed the fact that you’re engaging in it. As opposed to just acting on it without giving it a second thought. Success!

    Phase 2: Surrender Your Ego

Here, you feel triggered and act on it but realize that you don’t have to act on it. You realize that you have self-control. You don’t have to send the text or the email, you don’t have to bring out your claws, you don’t have to pick up the food. So, you feel whatever is coming up for you, witness your behavior, and surrender your ego’s way to your inner teacher. Ask the Universe to speak to you through your inner teacher, so you can be guided. Surrender doesn’t mean that you give up – it means you transfer your power from your ego to your inner teacher. Then, patiently wait with faith.

    Phase 3: You’re Healed

The next time the situation comes up, you just don’t go there. You don’t send the text or email, you don’t overeat, you don’t bring out your claws. And better yet, you’re even more in tune than you were before the destructive behavior showed up. You’re shinier and newer than you were before because you decided to surrender your way to the care of this loving energy. At this point, you can feel it and witness it, surrender the behavior, and know that you love yourself too much to do that to yourself.

I went through all of these phases and, now, I just don’t go there. I’ve built the mental musculature to be able to witness my thoughts without judgement (“Okay, my ego is telling me to binge.”) and to not be tempted into an immediate response. I wait and then surrender by asking myself, “What would Love do?” Love wants me to be fulfilled. Binging always made me feel empty. I don’t binge. Then I thank the Universe for giving me the opportunity to confront my fear again, to be tempted again just so that I can further my healing process.

In reality,  you’re being tempted because the Universe loves you so freakin’ much. The Universe wants to test you again and again so you can become a pro at handling it with love. So you can accept the assignment you’ve been given, ask what you can learn from it, and ask the Universe to help you handle it with love. The Universe is your co-pilot. Beforehand, you thought that you were all alone. But that’s not true. You have guidance inside of you and all around you. Your task is to call on your inner teacher to help you handle the situation with love. So, are you ready to buff up your mental muscles and detox from fear and pain?

Are you ready for your detox?

  2. The most attractive thing about you is…!

    May 20, 2013 by Heather

Where are you placing your power? Are you giving power to outside stuff or are you receiving power from the power that lives inside of you?

Spot-check yourself. Are you basing the quality of your Facebook status on how many likes it gets?  If so, you’re giving power to an idea that you’ll only be enough when you get 10 likes. But what happens when you reach 10 likes? Ten will not be enough. We’ll want more. When you’re giving power to something outside of you, it’s exhausting. You literally feel exhausted. Take an inventory of how you feel when you’re talking to people?

Are you trying to prove something about yourself? Are you the person who is trying to prove how great they are to people because, inside, you really feel like you’re not good enough?

Are you placing people on a pedestal? Do you see people who have a large fan base and think they’re better than you because of that?

Are you placing yourself on a pedestal? Do you think you’re better than someone because you have something that someone else doesn’t?

Are you placing your happiness in having the “perfect” day of eating? Are you placing your power in exercise? Do you believe that your day is incomplete when you don’t exercise? Then, you are placing your quest for happiness in something outside of you. When we reach for happiness in something outside of ourselves, it’s like reaching for love in a sea of fear. You will always come up empty handed.

Who you are is not not what you do. What you do is an extension of who you are. But it does not – and never will – define who you really are. And who you really are is a loving person put here on this planet to use your inner authentic power to connect with that love inside of you and then go out and share it with everyone you meet.

It’s time to OWN your authenticity and channel it. Use your authenticity to create. We’re all creators. And our natural ability to create comes from tapping into that authenticity.  So, tap in baby.

    • Start becoming aware of how you’re giving away your power. Don’t judge yourself. Just become aware of how you’re giving your power away to others and how you’re trying to seek power in outside sources. Are you seeking power in others or inspiration from others? Are you obsessed or are you inspired? There’s a big difference!
    • Start tapping in and receiving the power that lives inside of you.  A Course in Miracles says that just five minutes in stillness is enough for you to receive that burst of authenticity. Start by playing a song that inspires you. Close your eyes, breathe, and just let love flow through you. Every day. Have a journal nearby so you can free write after that meditation. Put pen to paper and just let it all out on the page.

This is an ideal time to start passion projects. If you’ve been procrastinating on an awesome idea or project that you know will give you joy and will be of service to others, do it! Tap into that authenticity and just take the leap.

Leap into authenticity and a net of inner peace will appear.

    Stay lovely,
    Heather

  3. Our plan might suck, but the Universe’s never does.

    May 17, 2013 by Heather

Anyone else feeling super irritable this week? I am a very patient person but, this week, I found myself losing every last bit of patience that was left inside of me. I know the fact that I’ve only gotten 6 hours of sleep most nights this week has something to do with it. Lack of sleep = irritable Heather.

This week has also been filled with lovely surprises.

On Wednesday, I was working from home all day. I’d been working for a fairly long time and knew it was time for a break. Sometimes, I have problems taking breaks. My ego will pop in and tell me really crazy stuff, like “Nothing is going to get done if you don’t take a break” or “You’re lazy” or “You’re worthless.” It’s scientifically proven that taking a 10 – 30 minute break after 90 minutes of focused work is the most productive way to work. It keeps you focused, clear, and driven. You also get a lot more done. I know this. Yet, my ego still feeds me this stuff.

So, on Wednesday, as I sat debating over whether to continue working when I really didn’t feel like it, I heard a voice say, “Grab your keys and go to Wildflour.” Miracles always happen at Wildflour, so when I hear such a call, there really is no arguing with it. I grabbed my purse and drove to my favorite vegan bakery and cafe.

On the drive there, I realized it was a good thing that I left my work…because I was starting to make it all about me. I had lost sight of the intention behind the goal for the project. And when we lose sight of the intention behind our goal, it’s always a sure sign that we need to step away and ask for guidance. So, that inner voice was right. Its plan is always far greater than mine.

As I was driving, I asked the Universe to guide me to be of service to someone.

When I arrived to Wildflour, I ordered a hemp bar and a cup of chai tea before sliding into the wall-length booth to read my book. A few minutes later, this man with gorgeous black skin, the whitest and widest smile, and glowing personality walked in. He ordered a coffee and sat a few seats down from me. After taking a look at the book I was reading (Ask and it is Given by Esther & Jerry Hicks), he gushed about it. Before we knew it, a half-hour had passed. We talked about everything from entrepreneurship to spirituality to love to jogging. His name is Ammanuel and he is awesome. He is an author and artist. I gave him some blogging tips and kicked his butt in gear towards social media. The world needs this man’s presence. I couldn’t believe that someone as talented as him wasn’t showing the world his goods!

We’re both only children and talked about how we always wanted to have a physical sibling on earth. We both agreed that we’d found a brother and a sister in each other. Instant connection. My sister, who died three years before I was born, is definitely guiding me every day. I feel her presence all the time and now know that is just as beautiful has having her here on Earth with me.

I forget how but we eventually got onto the topic of A Course in Miracles. I mentioned how I’m studying it and, while I love the material so deeply, I have really been wanting someone to study it with me.. “I’ve always wanted to read it. Why don’t we do it?” Ammanuel said. “OMG! That would be awesome!” I said. And so it is.

After we parted ways, I drove all the way home with a goofy grin on my face. When I got home, before getting back to work, I felt compelled to go on Facebook and look at Ammanuel’s “about” page.

His birthday is my sister’s birthday.

Moral of the story: Our life is a map and the Universe knows our destination. Our way is not always the right way. Sometimes, our way sucks…particularly when we choose to try to push and make things happen, which never works. But the Universe’s way always works. It always guides us to the right people at the right place at the right time. That’s why it’s called Divine timing.

    Stay lovely,
    Heather
