  1. Best New Workout Playlist!

    March 21, 2012 by Heather

Well, howdy! I am writing to you with my window open, fan blowing and brain going in about 700 different directions. Today was the day of my Medical Nutrition Therapy midterm and I did alright. All that matters is that I studied and tried my hardest, right? Right! I kinda feel like this guy…

At least you tried, It's better than not trying at all. No matter what it is, what kind of situation it is. If you come up short just know that you did your best &you learned a lesson&you can apply that lesson when you try once more. Believe in yourself&give each situation your best shot, If you make it be grateful, if not stay humble&know that because you did your best you will have confidence to get over the hump the next time. Don't dwell, excel and believe in yourself&always do your best!

    Workout

I slept in an extra 15 minutes this morning before fitting in a solid workout. I began with 20 minutes on the arc trainer and followed it up with one round of Tone It Up’s Sweet & Sexy Valentine’s Day Workout. No, it’s not Valentine’s Day and yes, I’m still in love with it!

Side note: Our gym is pretty cool. We have a glass-enclosed portion with a variety of exercise machines and weights and a separate room outside of the enclosed portion with more cardio machines. Beyond that, we have two separate exercise rooms with mirrors, ballet barres, steps and free weights (this is where group exercise classes are held).

I usually complete my cardio in the outside portion and my strength workouts in one of the group exercise rooms. When I arrived at the gym this morning, I heard a bunch of grunts and loud banter coming from the enclosed portion of the gym. Low and behold, it was the entire football team! Too much testosterone and overall cockiness for my liking. ;-)

    Breakfast

Onto breakfast! It was nothing you haven’t seen before but, still, something to always write home about: chocolate protein pudding oats! I served mine with grapefruit and the usual black coffee!

The rest of the day was spent studying with my friends Kristin and Sherri. I actually had the same exact lunch as yesterday’s so, if you feel so inclined, you can check it out again. It was just that good!

    Dinner

After our midterm, a few of my classmates and I chatted about how ridiculous the exam was before working on a group project that is due on Monday. We’re making a “fake” grant and implementing a new program for a nearby food pantry. It’s really interesting – but super hard, as none of us have drafted a grant before.

After quite some time mulling over different aspects of the grant, we considered banging our heads against the wall. Never mess with a room of hungry, over-studied young women! In the interest of our sanity, we called it quits, and Sherri and I grabbed a quick dinner at Whole Foods with her boyfriend and his friend.

My brain was so fried and my stomach was so ravenous that I literally just threw a bunch of stuff into a container and hoped that it turned out well. Success! It’s kind of hard to screw up a salad – and this was certainly no exception! Into the container went spinach, roasted eggplant, mushroom, onions and sweet potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers and falafel! I topped it with lemn-mint vinaigrette and before I knew it, we were in salad bliss.

    Best New Workout Playlist!

We all know how much I love a good workout playlist. (For a round-up of previous playlists, you can click here) I recently updated mine and thought I would share! I love sharing music with others! Cait and I had a field day doing that last Friday. We have a mutual adoration for Jump Little Children. On a different note (no pun intended!), I feel slightly scummy for downloading and adoring Chris Brown’s new song. Oops!  :-|

If you’re not already a Gotye fan, I HIGHLY recommend downloading his music. He is really incredible – so talented and innovative. I love running to “Eyes Wide Open” and “In Your Light.” Both of them are so motivating and really ignite a fire inside of me. If you’re into finding out the meaning behind artist’s songs, watch this short on the making of “Eyes Wide Open.” It’s so fascinating and inspiring.

Okay, I’m off to watch One Tree Hill and Modern Family. Priorities, people!

    Stay lovely,
    Heather

Question of the Day: What workout songs are you loving lately?

  2. New Workout Playlist!

    February 26, 2012 by Heather

Happy Sunday, babes!  What are you up to today? I took my exam at the crack butt of dawn and now, I’m currently working on some case studies before packing and jetting off to work for the day.

    Breakfast

After my exam this morning, I wasn’t hungry. (Who am I? This was an hour after I got up!) Instead, downed a beautiful cup of coffee before heading to church. Mass was beautiful. Fr. Chip’s sermon was all about how we can give back to others and encourage them with their Lenten sacrifices. Amen! When I got back from church, I was ready for breakfast. On the menu today was cereal and berries!

I poured myself a bowl of Kashi GOLEAN Crisp! Cinnamon Crumble with almond milk and a side of fresh strawberries and blueberries. This batch of strawberries are absolutely delicious! They remind me of Summer. Le sigh…

    Lunch

Homework ensued for another couple of hours, until my tummy started rumbling. This just so happened to be lunch time. How convenient! I fixed myself a very random lunch: my version of a happy meal.

See what I did there? ;-)

I made a spinach salad with smoked sun-dried tomatoes, organic baby carrots and hummus, topped with the deliciously addicting dressing from Christy’s mac n’ kale salad. I also enjoyed a gardein pattie and half of a roasted sweet potato, dabbed with melted Earth Balance.

Totally random. Totally delish. Totally happy.

    New Workout Playlist

It’s been awhile since we talked about workout jams up in here, huh? We all know that music is a part of my life (click here if you missed Matty and I’s cover of “Poison & Wine”). As far as working out goes, I update my playlists every week. I usually have two homemade playlists and one hour-long DJ mix on hand to keep things interesting. Mixing up my playlists really ups my workout mojo! Plus, I love discovering new music to put on there. It makes me look forward to my morning workouts even more!

Side note: If you’re looking for a great DJ workout mix, you can download this one from DJ Lindsay Luv (as well as a bunch of others) for FREE on the Tone It Up site! Yes, pretties, I said free. Yet another reason why we love Tone It Up with all our hearts!

Here is the mix I will be working out to during tomorrow’ booty call:

Let me know what you think of it!

    Stay lovely,
    Heather

  3. Sexy Arms & New Playlist!

    February 2, 2012 by Heather

Hey there! Today has been insanely busy, but good! I’ve had a couple of articles on deadline that I need to wrap up for both school and freelance work. So far, so good!

    Workout

Before the hustle and bustle of the day began, I got my sweat on. Today’s workout started with 30 minutes of HIIT on the treadmill. I kind of went hog wild with speeds today. It was fun! Afterwards, I completed three circuits of this arm workout. It burns and, therefore, will make your arms sexy. ;-)

Note: All exercises were performed with 8-lb. dumbbells. The ABC move was performed using one 6-lb. dumbbell.

I was going to also complete the new Tone It Up workout but I ended up falling off the exercise ball and onto my tailbone. I’m so graceful, I know. Anyways, it kind of hurt so I nixed the lower body routine in favor of some stretching. Thankfully, I’m feeling a bit better and hope to complete it tomorrow!

    Breakfast

Breakfast was (mostly) mushy and delicious.

It’s Vega protein pudding oats! Into the bowl went 1 scoop of Vega Chocolate Performance Protein, 1 cup of almond milk, and about 1/3 cup organic oats. I also apparently ate a very pink looking orange? Still delicious! Whatever floats its boat, right?

I worked away in my dorm room before interviewing a professor on campus for another article that I’m working on. Then, it was lunch time!

    Lunch

My fridge is looking a little sad but I made do with what I had on hand to make a satsifying meal!

That salad looks rather dreamy, doesn’t it? Well, it was! I combined the usual veggie suspects and topped them with Whole Foods sesame dressing, a sprinkle of nutritional yeast, and a dash of cumin. I wanted a hummus sandwich too but I have no self control and ate the entire container in the past four days (whoops?), so plain Ezekiel bread it was!

    New Workout Playlist

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a workout playlist so I thought I’d give it a go today. Music is really the driving force behind my motivation to work out. If I didn’t have music to listen to, I’m not sure that I would push myself as hard as I do during my workouts. The beat of the bass drum and “You can do it!” lyrics play a huge role in making my workout all it can be!

Here’s what I’ve been listening to this week:

What’s on your playlist lately? Let’s share our musical inspirations!

I’m off to finish up my article, pack, head to class, and then drive home! Tomorrow is my Auntie Claire’s funeral and, by the grace of God, my one and only class is cancelled! Have a beautiful night.

    Stay lovely,
    Heather
